Massive Orange Overland Camper Up for Auction: Drive The Globe Stewart & Stevenson

Drive The Globe Stewart & Stevenson overland camper on Bring a Trailer

Overland adventures around the globe are calling and this well-appointed, adventure-proven camper is ready to answer that call. Yes, it’s big and will have a big price tag, but it’s also big on comfort, capability, and outdoor gear-hauling capacity.

This 1994 Stewart & Stevenson M1079 LMTV ex-military truck has been fully converted into a home on wheels. It is up for auction now on Bring-a-Trailer (see the auction here). The auction ends Thursday, May 18, at 2:41 p.m. PDT.

LMTV Overland Build

Let’s dive into some of the basics of the truck this camper is built upon first.

With only 21,000 miles on the odometer, this truck is just getting broken in. This is especially true since it’s powered by a 6.7L turbo diesel straight-six. A seven-speed Allison automatic transmission makes it easy to drive in any condition.

The truck’s permanent AWD system is robust and designed to tackle just about any terrain where this big machine can fit. The massive 47-inch (395/85R20) tires, wrapped on 20-inch steel wheels, also help greatly on the capability front.

The cab is a nice place to be as well, as it has AC, locking doors, and air suspension. Not all LMTVs have these comfort options, but the current owner upgraded all these truck systems. Greatly upgraded are also the front seats, now featuring two super-comfortable Scheel-Mann touring seats.

Add in loads of sound-deadening, full carpeting, and an audio system and you’ll be enjoying road trips without going deaf from the big diesel. The cab also features a GMRS radio, Renogy 3,000W inverter, and a Dometic fridge.

The outside of the truck features full LED lighting, dual cab-top ladders, a roof rack, and aluminum storage boxes. Under the camper box are five built-in storage boxes. Up top, it has two power-operated awnings. It also features a kayak rack and four bike racks.

The orange with a yellow accent stripe paint job helps make this massive machine stand out from the traditional green/black or beige camo usually seen on these LMTVs. The branded vinyl graphics will be removed before the vehicle is passed on to its new owner.

The rear living quarters box on this overland vehicle is 16’6″ by 7’6″. It also has an impressive 6’7″ interior standing height. The current owner also added an RV-style side entry door and an enlarged aft-section, which is the bedroom and adds quite a bit of storage.

The main box footprint houses a folding dinette table, workstation with a folding desktop, full kitchen, and bathroom. The kitchen has butcher block counters, a double farmhouse sink, an oven with a three-burner stove, a microwave, a Nespresso machine, and a fridge/freezer.

The camper is comfy in all the ways, with heat, AC, and woodgrain vinyl flooring. The full-size bed has a clothes closet. The bathroom has everything you’d want, including a standalone shower with a rainfall shower head.

You won’t be worrying about water much either, as 80 gallons are on board. On-demand hot water and a UV filtration system mean that the water is also convenient to use in all ways.

You also won’t miss your favorite movies while on the road less traveled. This camper has a big flat-screen TV and a full Rockford Fosgate audio system. And 1,200W of on-roof solar charges up 800Ah of lithium batteries, and a 3,000W inverter keeps all the systems humming and electronics charged up.
