Before + After: Affordable Pantry Organization

Before

(I can’t even show you the bottom. It’s too embarrassing. 🙈)

After

This is by far the most satisfying improvement I’ve made to our home while in quarantine! It sparks joy, that’s for sure. 😉

I’ve long wanted to be one of those moms with a pantry that looked like this. But alas. My shelves always housed mismatched storage containers from past apartments… and never enough of them.

Note: We don’t have a true pantry; we just have cabinets. But this is where we keep all our snacks, and we call it the pantry. We also don’t normally have this many snacks. 😂 Mitch decided to stock up in February when things were getting serious over in China because of conversations he had with my father about the gravity of the situation. At the time, I thought he was a little nuts, but I have to say that I’m now very grateful for his early prep!

This past month, though, Rubbermaid invited us to make all our pantry dreams come true with the brand’s Brilliance Pantry Containers, available via Amazon. I was thrilled. At the start of all this, Mitch and I made a list of house chores that we wanted to tackle, and organization was at the top! Over our first year here, we definitely tried to organize. But I don’t know: I think we just never recovered from having Lucy on moving day. The movers and our parents graciously unpacked the house (THANK YOU! 🤗) and 11 months later, we’re still rearranging. (Seriously, though: So grateful! Without that help, we’d likely still be in boxes, haha.)

Again, the Rubbermaid project was so incredibly satisfying. The company sent us a couple of sets of the containers, and I loved them so much that I bought more, in an effort to finally have a truly organized pantry. They’re half the price of competitor containers, so it seemed like a no-brainer!

The Brilliance Pantry Containers are legit, btw. They’re modular, and stack for compact storage… and their two-latch design provides for a 100-percent airtight and secure seal. We have so much in the containers–from grains and cereals to dried fruit and baking ingredients–and everything stays fresh. Oh, and they’re freezer- and (top rack) dishwasher-safe; stain- and odor-resistant; BPA-free; and crystal clear so you can quickly and easily identify what’s inside. Finally, they’re pretty, haha. I suppose I’d never realized just how ugly packaging can be… but the before-and-after photos really show just how much of a visible upgrade we got from the Brilliance line.

I should also note that I started and completed the entire project within two hours in the middle of the day, while taking care of the girls! (Huzzah.) Emma jumped on the trampoline, and I set out a ton of toys on the floor for Lucy. It was lovely. And at the end of it, I felt a more in control of my life–something I hadn’t felt in a while. I know. It sounds a little silly. But even now, after the fact, opening these cabinets is calming for me.

The best part, though? The Brilliance Pantry Containers limit waste. Now more than ever, we’re trying to conserve, we find that we buy and throw away far less because we can visibly see everything when we open the pantry and because the containers do an incredible job keeping food fresh longer. We’ve saved a ton of money on groceries because of this, and we’ve been able to stay safe at home because of it, too.

One of the most helpful bits of advice I’ve recently received is that spending time identifying what I can actually control often yields a sense of inner tranquility, especially during times of uncertainty and fear. And the Rubbermaid project only further supported that! The feeling I got from it was so welcomed that I’ve since been motivated to start working on other organizational home projects–and we all know that starting is the hardest part!

Have you been organizing your home during quarantine? If so, what are you working on and how are you doing it?!

This post is sponsored by Rubbermaid; all opinions are my own. As always, thank you so, so much for supporting the partnerships that keep Kelly in the City up and running!
