Where to soak in summer

The sun poked its head out over the weekend, and all of SA raced to get outside — me included! I was desperate to spend the whole weekend soaking in the sun… but, where to go? 

If you’re in the same boat and searching for summer lunch or drink spots to get your dose of Vitamin D, here are some beauties that will let you make the most of this incredible sunshine…

Uraidla Hotel

An epic beer garden, great for families and catch ups with friends. Plus, it’s dog friendly!

Sit street side and watch sleepy Strathalbyn pass you by.

Vale Taphouse

This newbie sits on a huuuuge hill of green grass, which just screams “beer tasting picnic in the sun”.

Lost in a Forest

Feast on pizza with a side of vino in the enchanting garden, or duck inside the charming church-style restaurant to beat the heat.

Anderson Hill

Their wrap around deck overlooking the vineyard is the perfect place to spend an arvo.


Lawn games and gorgeous gardens, this beauty is art in itself! Get a bottle and a platter, and turn your face to the sun.

Star of Greece 

The perfect mix of inside-outside dining, especially when it’s warm and they open up all the huge windows overlooking the sea!

Sprawling grounds means there’s room for everyone, with chairs that you can move in and out of the shade as you please.

Cobbs Hill Estate

Find yourself a little nook in the garden and let nature heal you (along with a bottle of red).

Golding Wines

One of our fave cellar doors, this beauty has umbrellas to keep you protected OR set up a picnic rug out on the lawns.

Sidewood Estate

This entire cellar door was built with the outdoors in mind, sit in the sun for an arvo in this Adelaide Hills destination (or snag yourself a gazebo with the perfect amount of shade). There’s also a fab natures play area for kids to run wild.

The Edinburgh Hotel 

You’ll still feel like you’re in the heart of the hotel in this beer garden, but with the added bonus of sun rays shining down.

North Beach Kitchen Wallaroo

Right on Wallaroo’s beachfront, it doesn’t get much better than this!

Down the Rabbit Hole

This Instagrammable property knows how to picnic, with low tables and picnic blankets scattered around. All you need to do is get comfy!

Drinks smack-bang on the beach? Hell yeah!

This luxe rooftop bar provides plenty of vibrant energy with sweeping views from the hills to the coast.

Merrymaker @ Hotel Indigo

Beat the heat of the city streets and get way up high instead! The colour schemes will put you in the summer mood, and the rooftop is the best place to catch some rays.

Get right out onto the streets of Adelaide with a vino of your choice and some nibbles to boot. The dappled sunshine will feel like heaven!

One of our fave beer gardens in the burbs, with all the windows open there’s plenty of air flow and there’s the added bonus of it being dog friendly!

Heaps of indoor seating for those escaping the sun, but there’s also a killer beer garden that often has live music on the weekends. Added bonus — the smell of the sea breeze to keep you cool.

O’Leary Walker 

Sitting smack-bang on top of a hill, overlooking other hills and vineyards this beauty will have you blissed out in no time.

Sevenhill Cellars

A huuuuuuge grassed area for kiddos to run wild while you enjoy some of the best wine that Clare has to offer.
