Today, Ubisoft announced that the Tom Clancy universe is expanding with a brand-new video game, Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. As a result, this upcoming free-to-play FPS combines fast-paced 6-v-6 arena combat with faction-based abilities. Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is being developed by Ubisoft San Francisco and led by FPS expert Mark Rubin and veteran Jason Schroeder. This brand-new free-to-play FPS is a Ubisoft Original and a new take on the competitive FPS genre. Furthermore, Ubisoft promises that XDefiant will immerse players at the forefront of the Tom Clancy universe. Also, the game will include iconic locations with maps mixing indoor and outdoor environments, ensuring smooth gameplay and unpredictable engagements.
Features announced for XDefiant include:
Personalized Playstyle: Players can personalize their Defiant to match their playstyle. Players can choose a faction with unique traits, abilities and ultra. Then, select from an arsenal of primary and secondary weapons, attachments and a device to complete their loadout. Additionally, players can even tweak it on the fly after respawning.
Competitive Clashes: The game offers a variety of competitive 6-v-6 arena and linear game modes, such as Domination and Escort. Combine that with a large pool of uniquely designed maps in rotation and no two matches will feel the same.
Diverse Factions of Defiants: XDefiant will initially feature factions such as the Wolves (Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon), Echelon (Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell) and the Outcasts and Cleaners (Tom Clancy’s The Division) battling across iconic locations. Additional Defiants will be added as the game evolves. Moreover, the factions in the game will draw on a range of characters and abilities from the Tom Clancy universe and beyond.
Battle for domination in Tom Clancy’s XDefiant
XDefiant will be available Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Stadia and Luna. Furthermore, the game is expected to ship with full crossplay at launch. Unfortunately, a launch date has not been announced as of yet. However, Ubisoft are planning closed gameplay tests. As a result, the first closed gameplay test takes place for PC players in North America on August 5. Additional tests are planned for this winter.
