Running along our beautiful riverways, East Perth is dotted with charming little hubs ready to help you wake up in the morning or feed those rumbling bellies when hunger hits.
And with new spots constantly popping up all over the place, you have the perfect excuse to organise that catch up and test them all out.
Here are 11 of East Perth’s best cafes.
The Coffee Plug
Double cheese conti?! You have our attention. The Coffee Plug is an East Perth newbie that’s just thrown open its doors promising some iconic specialty sandos every day smothered with their housemade garlic rosemary butter for that ultimate irresistible crunch. Better still, those with a sweet tooth can take home some drool worthy brownies made by local baking queen Mumma’s Sweet Lies. Ooh baby.
Welli Deli
We love a family run establishment, especially when they can make sandwiches this good. Based on Wellington Street across the road from the massive Wellington Square parklands, this simple chic cafe boasts some serious NYC style melts (think Chilli Salami, Tuna Melt and the mouth-watering Welli Conti) and unbelievable gooey brownies that will go perfectly with one of their expertly made coffees.
DuoTone
Serious about great coffee? So are DuoTone. Single origin, cold brews, batch brews, alternative lattes and luxe hot chocolates made with legendary Bahen and Co are the names of the game here in this cosy bright spot right across the road from the Perth Mint. They’ve got a huge brunch menu and cabinet full of bagels, flakey croissants and sweet treats for those on the go too.
Farmology
Nestled into the luscious gardens of Perth City Farm lies Farmology Cafe, a quaint little cafe great for sustainable eats that specialises in fresh produce and nutritious meals and desserts that won’t hurt the environment and cater to all those with dietary requirements too. This green oasis is the perfect spot to grab a drink on a Saturday while you forage through the farmer’s markets, or just to find a piece of tranquillity right in the heart of the city.
Cactus Kitchen
Cactus Kitchen sits pretty on Royal Street always buzzing in the morning as the friendly locals wander past for their daily caffeine fix. This quaint little unpretentious cafe pumps out a stack of fresh tasty meals and takeaway treats with a constantly updated bunch of specials that’ll make your mouth water for sure.
Cafe Atti
Another charming new addition to these leafy streets is Cafe Atti, a small light-filled airy cafe corner with industrial chic interiors, lots of indoor plants and tonnes of yummy bites to enjoy. We love the minimalist design and the super friendly staff that always have big beaming smiles on their faces ready to greet you. Look out for their regular brekky and coffee combos too.
Toast
An absolute institution perched right on the tranquil waters of Claisebrook Cove, Toast is a dreamy spot to soak in those Autumn rays sitting alfresco out on the deck feasting on one of their delicious stunningly-presented all day brunch plates or some of their damn great coffee. For us, it’s all about their Pork Belly Pickled Cabbage On Toast, or their Strawberries and Cream French Toast that’s far too pretty to eat.
Cravings Cafe
Cravings is a sweet little neighbourhood hangout spot popular with weekend cyclists that serves up all the classic brunch dishes, big nutritious smoothies and juices as well as an epic freshly made traditionally made Greek beef souvlaki that’s hard to beat that you might not expect during your lunch break.
The Partisan
You could easily mistake yourself in a quaint little French village when you sit on the peaceful terraces of Claisebrook Cove at The Partisan. This darling spot lined with umbrellas and alfresco dining is dreamy for a long brunch or dinner, with a sneaky range of all-day cocktails so you can sip a mimosa before noon—cheers.
Kinky Lizard Espresso Bar
Affectionately known as the OG Kinky Lizard, this espresso bar is always full of passersby with babes and pups in hand on a Saturday morning and locals in need of a good feed. We love a Big Kinky Breakfast fry up after a big night out, or their Salmon Benedict when we’re feeling a little luxe. Just a stone’s throw away from the sparkling waters of the Swan River, why not grab yourself a brew here then make your way down for a weekend stroll.
Daily Eats
Okay, not only do we love Daily Eats Cafe because they stock some of our absolute fave Portuguese tarts and treats from Portuguese Delights, but also because they manage to feed us something fresh, seasonal and delish any time of the day with their huge all-day menu offerings. Load up on one of their big punchy fresh salads, fluffy pancakes and perfect poached eggs and settle into this peaceful little pocket of the world for a while.
Still hungry? We got you.
