Father’s Day gift ideas that dad will love

Father’s Day is nearly upon us, and that means that today it’s my mission to help you find a great gift for dad by suggesting a few of Best Buy’s coolest items that just happen to be popular among dads. Join me below as I explore a selection of fun products that I hope will help you to narrow your search for the perfect Father’s Day gift. Each gifting category I’m considering is rather broad, so there’s sure to be plenty of great gift ideas beyond the individual items suggested. Read on if your dad might enjoy any of the following product types: Smart Home Devices, DSLR CamerasDrones, Premium TVs, & Virtual Reality Headsets.

Dads love Smart Homes

Many dads enjoy making their homes smarter as it allows them to keep their families safe and secure, to reduce their energy bills, and to add a little bit of convenience to their lives. There’s certainly no doubt that dads everywhere know the value of a smart home. And since many dads also like to tinker with home improvement projects, smart home items can also provide them with something fun and interesting to play around with—something like smart home security cameras from popular brands like Arlo.

The smart security cameras shown above (the Arlo Pro 2 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Security System with 4 1080p HD Cameras) are super easy for dad to move around the house or yard, meaning he can arrange them in whatever configuration he chooses and rearrange them as often as he sees fit. This quality alone makes wireless smart home security cameras the gift that keeps on giving, because dad can have fun messing around with them for many years to come.

Of course, there’s also the app factor, meaning that smart security cameras and most other smart home devices offer a smart phone app for dad to control and monitor them with. Products like smart thermostats (such as the Nest Wi-Fi Smart Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation, shown above) are a great example of this. These thermostats give dad the ultimate control over the heating and cooling of his home, allowing him to make any adjustment he wishes via his smart phone or tablet and the popular Nest App.

If your dad is into tech gadgets and the latest smart home devices, he’ll love the control he has with these incredible smart thermostats. Of course, I’m only scratching the surface of the smart home realm with these 2 product examples. There are numerous other smart home product types available that dad might also enjoy. To get a better idea of everything that’s available, check out Best Buy’s main Smart Home hub and see how many more dad friendly gift ideas you can come up with.

DSLR CamerasDad

A brand new DSLR camera is another great gift item for dad. Of course, there are numerous different models currently available at Best Buy, and features and specs do vary greatly.

For instance, models like the very popular Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens Kit (not shown) have features like large LCD screens for easily eyeing up your shot, memory card compatibility for limitless storage space, HD video recording so you can capture life’s lingering moments, and built-in Wi-Fi (and NFC technology) so you can quickly and easily share the most memorable times in your life—just to name a few of its most useful features.

In fact, most of the DSLR cameras available at Best Buy are so feature rich that they really ought to have their own in-depth articles to explain how to get the most out of them… Then again, I guess they kind of do. One recent article right here on the blog by Noah Asanias provides you (and dad) with 9 tips and tricks to instantly improve your photography. Check it out!

Drones

Turning our attention now to drones, there are 2 major types of drones that dads are likely to enjoy: hobby grade drones and professional grade photography drones.

If your father is the kind of guy that likes getting outside and having fun with outdoor games and activities, then perhaps he’s the type to enjoy flying a hobby grade drone like the one shown above. This model is the DJI Tello Boost Combo Quadcopter Drone with Cameraand it can do a variety of cool things like 8 different mid air flips.

Drones of this type may or may not have a camera attached, but whether or not they do, they’re more about flying and having fun than anything else. When hobby grade drones are equipped with cameras, they’re generally not high end ones. However, these drones usually are capable of doing some pretty incredible stunt flying, and that makes them a whole lot of fun for pilots of all ages. And they’re also very well suited to outdoor and sports enthusiasts, so if that description sounds like your dad, a hobby grade drone might just be the answer you’re looking for.

On the other hand, maybe your dad is a serious photography buff? If that’s the case, he’s going to need a proper photography drone (such as the DJI Mavic Air 2 Quadcopter Drone with Camera & Controllershown below) to play with.DadDrones of this type offer seriously high end cameras with gimbals to smooth their video and image output. Many professionals (such as Real Estate Agents) use these types of drones to create “virtual” video showings of the homes they’re trying to sell, but making professional or commercial videos is certainly not necessary to getting a great deal of enjoyment out of one of these higher end drones. All dad really needs to be is a typical father that enjoys taking photos and getting great video footage.

Dad also doesn’t need to be a serious drone pilot to get the most out of this type of drone; most high end drones these days practically fly themselves. For instance, the Mavic Air 2 here has capabilities like auto take off and landing and return to home, meaning that dad will have a super easy time controlling it.

Other features of this amazing drone include a 5000 metre maximum flight elevation with a 10 Km transmission range, up to 34 minutes of total flight time, and an absolutely amazing camera that shoots footage in glorious 4K Ultra HD at 60fps or 1080p at 240fps, so you know the image quality that dad will get with this thing is going to be great! Once again, there are many more features to a drone like this than I can possibly list here, so do give its Best Buy product page a look if you’re curious about the others.

Premium TVs

Dad

One gift that any dad would love this Father’s Day is a Premium TV like the LG NanoCell 49″ 4K UHD HDR LED webOS Smart TV, shown above. This beauty of a TV offers an incredible image resolution of 2160p—so crystal clear that good ol’ dad may be at risk of walking right into it!

This one also has a high dynamic range (HDR) and Ultra Luminance for a greater level/better quality of light/dark contrast, a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth and seamless picture quality no matter how fast the scene, an amazing array of Dolby Atmos & Surround sound features (an absolute treat for the ears!), and it’s even smart enough for dad to be able to control it all with his favourite smart speaker and virtual assistant combo (it’s compatible with both the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa).

Of course, once again I’m only scratching the surface of what this amazing TV can do—and in fact most of Best Buy’s premium TV offerings. To learn all about this specific model, give its Best Buy product page a look and scroll down to its looong list of high end features.

Virtual Reality Headsets make great dad gifts

Finally, if your dad likes gaming or watching 360 degree videos, he may be a great candidate for a Virtual Reality Headset. You’ll find great examples of these cool devices at the preceding link, but allow me to explain a little bit about them just in case you’re not entirely familiar with how they work.

In effect, virtual reality devices immerse the user in a full-fledged alternate reality that they can either just sit back and enjoy or interactively engage with, depending on whether they’re watching a virtual reality video or doing some serious gaming.

It’s important to keep in mind that some, but not all, virtual reality headsets come with their own handheld gaming controllers (the popular Oculus Go and HTC VIVE Cosmos VR Headset with Controllers are two such examples). I reviewed the Oculus Go myself just a few months back. Check it out!Dad

If gaming is the objective of buying a set for your dad, make sure you get one with all of the necessary components. It’s no exaggeration that virtual reality is growing bigger and getting better all the time, so such sets are definitely a great option when hunting for gifts for dad.

Hopefully by now you’re on the right track to finding dad a gift that he’ll both enjoy receiving and actually love using. For more great gift ideas for dad, visit Best Buy’s page dedicated to giving him a wonderful surprise. Happy Father’s Day!
