DC Metro Kids Weekend Events: July 10-12

We’re still finding ways to have fun online, from a hip hop class guaranteed to get the wiggles out to hands-on sensory fun with the National Children’s Museum. There is also plenty to do offline, including a Drive-Thru theatrical performance in McLean and pick-your-own farms within a day’s drive of DC. Find the balance between indoor fun and outdoor exploration this weekend.

Drive-Thru Drama
“Drive-Thru Drama” is a social-distance theater format that brings people together for live theater from the comfort of their own cars. Actors will perform one, cohesive story through short solos—each approximately two minutes—across the MCC parking lot. Audience members will simply roll down their windows and drive the route from actor to actor. Because this is a new program, information on this page may change as the planning progresses. Fri. Event details.

We All Scream for Ice Cream
There is no sweeter trip than the one to the ice cream store. Hop in the car and enjoy the best summer has to offer; fresh dipped cones and ice cold pops. Check out this list for the best places to go to cool off. Activity details.

Pick Some Petals
Farms offer acres to explore while socially distancing. And the best part? You get to bring up something pretty from your day’s adventure. Check out this guide to the best pick-your-own flower farms near DC. Activity details.

Hit the Beach
Just a 40 minute drive from DC, Aquia Landing offers sandy vibes without the shore traffic. Activity details.

Hip Hop The Wiggles Out
Ready to get the kids energy out? Join our live zoom classes or videos and move and dance. The instructor starts with a stretch, a HipHop isolation, dancing HipHop routines following the teacher and playing interactive dance games. Music and movement are kid appropriate, grandma approved. Fri. Event details.

Live Story Time with Gabrielle Union
Enjoy a special story time with actress and voice artist Gabrielle Union, who will be reading from her new picture book Welcome to the Party! Sat. Event details.

CariBEING Stories
Hear a selection of wise and witty Caribbean stories, as told by beloved storyteller Tammy Hall, then join us for a moderated conversation with Hall about the inspiration for these stories. Sun. Event details.

Sensory Fun
Join the National Children’s Museum every day for a STEAM educational live stream. With different themes for each day of the week, from Sensory Play Sunday to Story Time Wednesday and Nature Spotlight Friday, there’s something for everyone.
