10 teams

Twin Peaks girls basketball: With plenty of basketball left to play this winter, the Timberwolves have completed their turnaround from their 4-17 record a year earlier. After opening their season with two straight setbacks, the ladies have won eight of their last nine and sit at 8-3 with seven regular season games remaining.

Holy Family basketball: The boys and the girls — both 4A teams — stunned the competition when they hosted two very strong 5A Mead teams, and handed each of them very rare losses through high-paced game play.

Longmont boys basketball: The Trojans hosted 4A’s top-ranked Holy Family and, thanks to strong first and fourth quarters, managed to topple the Tigers on the backs of Reese Pearson’s 23 points and Cole Corner’s 19.

Skyline wrestling: The Falcons emerged from the Commander Classica in second place in a battle that came all the way down to the last match. All but two grapplers placed in the top six in their respective weight classes, including outright wins from Brody Hufford (106 lbs.), Calvin Mendez (113 lbs.) and Tobias Pinson (132 lbs.).

Fairview boys basketball: With a home win against Horizon on Thursday, the Knights surpassed last year’s win total and now sit at 7-6 after defeating Northglenn the next game.

Longmont girls basketball: The Trojans welcomed Greeley West to its gym and promptly sent it packing with a 52-16 victory for win No. 7, surpassing last year’s win total. Kaila Patterson and Savannah Pohl led their team with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Nederland boys basketball: The Panthers haven’t logged a varsity record since 2017-18, when they went 1-19, but they have already far surpassed that performance this season. After opening the season 0-2, they’ve won five straight by impressive margins.

Silver Creek girls swimming: The Raptors competed in a stacked St. Vrain Invite and snubbed Niwot for first place with 644 points, beating out the Cougars by 64.

Niwot boys basketball: The Cougars gritted out a tough, 56-53 win over Fort Morgan thanks to strong performances from Jerek Funkhouser (20 points), Jackson Carano (11), Julian Lettow (11) and Jack Jarvis (10 points).

Broomfield girls swimming: The Eagles rose to the top of the leaderboard at the Mustang Invite over the weekend with 447 points with Myra Wherry claiming the gold in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:58.06.

10 athletes

Alexandra Eschmeyer, Peak to Peak: She may only be a sophomore, but Eschmeyer is already turning heads less than halfway through her high school career. During the Pumas’ home contest against Colorado Academy on Thursday, she surpassed the 500-point mark and now sits at 531 with at least 11 games left this year.

Maddie Hartel, Erie girls basketball: Hartel surged offensively for her Tigers in back-to-back contests, netting 20 points against Horizon and then turning around to contribute 21 points in the Tigers’ win over Legacy.

Simon Holstein, Monarch hockey: Despite suffering a loss to 5A’s second-ranked Valor Christian, Holstein lit it up in the crease with a season-high 38 saves.

Tavon Underwood, Mead track and field: Underwood, who competes for REAL Training during the indoor season, traveled south for the Texas Tech Under Armour High School Classic and won the 400-meter dash in 47.58 seconds. That’s the fastest current indoor time by any Colorado high school athlete.

Max Vacco, Prospect Ridge Academy boys basketball: Vacco has been a talent in the Metro League for a while, but it’s been hard to contain him. He’s netted 28 points in each of the last two games for 261 total points this year.

Dominic McLawrence, Mead boys basketball: Despite a tough loss to Holy Family last week, McLawrence stepped up for his team by recording 13 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks.
